The large green throats accentuate the intense poppy red of the blooms. In hot weather, the blooms show a slim white edge.

The name was inspired by the poppies mentioned in the iconic poem 'In Flanders Fields' written by Colonel John McCrae in 1915 during the battle of Ypres in Belgium. The birthplace of this soldier/doctor in Guelph, Ontario, is now a part of the Guelph Civic Museum.

Fertile both ways.
