This is a special daylily in several respects. It is our first introduction using H. fulva ‘Cypriani’ which first arrived in the West (Naples, Italy) from central China about 1906.  The flower of ‘Gryphon Arlow Stout’ is a complex burgundy, more purple than shown in photos. The velvety bloom is quite variable, showing white edges and occasionally, ruffling. It is really not a UF, just a large flower. The plants have excellent branching and bud count, but are relatively slow increasers.

The name honors Dr. Arlow Stout, the father of the modern daylily and a major inspiration to us for his use of the fulva species in his hybridizing.
